The Seneca Nation hopes to break ground on a permanent off-reservation casino in Buffalo next spring, President Robert Odawi Porter said.
The tribe operates the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino in a temporary building downtown.
Plans for a $333 million project were shelved amid the national recession but Porter said a permanent facility is still on the table.
"We made a promise to this community to build a casino, and that was not a promise to build a temporary casino. It's going to happen," Porter told The Buffalo News.
The tribe announced a $1 million fund to improve infrastructure, landscaping, lighting and other amenities in the area near the casino.
