The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation in California announced four new members of its gaming commission.

Queenette Pettiford was named the new chairwoman. She's been serving on the commission for 12 years.

“It has always been my passion to be of service to my tribe and Indian Country, to maintain our position of self reliance and governance, and to continue the strong oversight and high standards that have come to be expected of the tribal gaming commission, their staff and all tribal entities," Pettiford said in a press release.

Other members of the commission are: Bernice Hyde, who previously served as chair, Charlene Worrell-Eckel and Shu Brown Sr., who is an alternate member.

The Sycuan Gaming Commission oversees the Sycuan Casino. It operates independently of the casino management and its members are appointed by the tribal council.
