Police fear increase in calls with liquor at Shakopee casino

Law enforcement are worried about an increase in calls if the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community starts serving liquor at its casino.

The tribe might sell liquor at the Mystic Lake Casino if lawmakers expand non-Indian gaming in the state. One local police chief already knows he won't be able to handle the change.

"We don't have a big enough police department," Prior Lake Police Chief Bill O'Rourke told The Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Prior Lake only has about three or four officers on duty at one time. The city has a liaison officer who is assigned to the reservation but that's mainly during the day.

Officers from the city of Shakopee and Scott County also patrol the reservation.
