Judge sets trial in August in Shingle Springs Band gaming case

A judge in California says the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians must go to trial in August in a gaming case.

Judge Patrick Riley rejected the tribe's motion to dismiss the case. The trial is due to start August 8.

At issue is a contract the tribe signed with Sharp Image. The two parties opened a casino in the mid-1990s but it closed after 10 months.

The tribe subsequently partnered with Lakes Entertainment to open the $200 million Red Hawk Casino. Sharp Image says it is owed $100 million under the old contract.
