Editorial: Let voters decide on Michigan off-reservation casino

"Talk of a casino in Lansing ebbs and flows, though never really disappears. The latest initiative comes from a group called the Lansing Jobs Coalition, which wants a measure on the August ballot directing the city to find an Indian tribe willing to support a casino. The group suggests that if approved by voters, a "temporary" casino could be operating in Lansing by December, bringing hundreds of jobs.

The odds against this happening are long at best. While a casino in Lansing would diversify its entertainment options, a wall of regulatory and tribal issues seriously limit how and where casinos can open. In a more practical sense, it may simply be too late for Lansing to cash in on gambling. Still, the initiative is harmless enough. Let's see what voters want."
