A Michigan man is trying to build support for an off-reservation casino in Lansing, the state capital.
Ted O’Dell founded the Lansing Jobs Coalition with the hopes of putting a casino referendum on the ballot in August. He says gaming will create 1,000 jobs and spur the economy.
O'Dell doesn't appear to have a tribe in line for his proposal. But former mayor David Hollister said some tribes approached him about a casino when he was in office.
Michigan is home to over 20 tribal and non-tribal gaming facilities. The latest is an off-reservation casino that some tribes and state and federal officials say is illegal.
