State judge orders trial for failed Shingle Springs Band casino

A judge in California has ordered a trial in a lawsuit against the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians.

Sharp Image Gaming is suing the tribe over a failed gaming deal. Sharp says the tribe violated the agreement by opening a casino with another developer.

The tribe has tried to block the lawsuit in the state and federal courts. The tribe maintains it has sovereign immunity.

The tribe opened the Red Hawk Casino with Lakes Entertainment as its partner.

The tribe's agreement with Sharp Image doesn't appear on the list of management contracts that have been approved by the National Indian Gaming Commission.
