Lawmakers in Florida consider proposal to legalize Internet poker

Lawmakers in Florida are considering a proposal to legalize Internet poker.

Rep. Joseph Abruzzo (D) wants to allow horse and dog tracks and jai-alai frontons to offer online poker games, to be played by people in Florida. The state would get 10 percent of the cut.

"Why not legalize, regulate and bring in revenue from something that's already occurring?" Abruzzo told The South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Internet gambling is illegal except for those forms authorized under state law or through a tribal-state compact. The Seminole Tribe would apparently be able to offer online poker if the state legalizes it.
