Tribes top the list of campaign donations from gaming interests

Political contributions from gaming interests are down this year but tribes are topping the list of donors in this election cycle, according to Scripps Howard Foundation Wire.

The Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma ranked number one among gaming interests. Most of their money went to Republicans.

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians of California ranked second, followed by the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, also in California.

Harrah’s Entertainment, which manages casinos for tribes, came in fourth, and the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians of California rounded out the top five.

Overall, gaming interests donated $9.72 million to political campaigns, or $2.37 million less the amount they gave in 2008.
