NLRB continues hearing of union election at Mashantucket casino

The National Labor Relations Board continued a second day of a hearing into a labor dispute at the casino owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut.

The tribe is contesting the July 31 election in which beverage servers, bar porters and lounge hosts voted to join the United Food and Commercial Workers. The tribe says the union made "inflammatory" accusations about jobs going to American Indians under Indian preference policies.

The tribe also says the NLRB is interfering with its sovereignty. Other unions have organized at Foxwoods Resort Casino under tribal law.
