BIA takes action with five gaming and gaming-related applications

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is making good on its promise to process land-into-trust applications for gaming and gaming-related projects.

Today's issue of the Federal Register contains five notices for pending applications. They include a casino for the Cloverdale Rancheria of Pomo Indians in California, a casino for the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon, a casino for the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians of California, a casino for the Enterprise Rancheria of California and a gaming-related project for the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

Three of the notices are for final environmental impact statements, meaning the BIA is moving closer to making a final decision on the applications. The other two are for draft environmental impact statements.

The Obama administration said the BIA has over 1,900 pending land-into-trust applications. Of those, less than 50 are related to gaming.
