Few governments request Nottawaseppi gaming revenues

Only six out of 24 eligible governments have requested a share of gaming revenues from the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians of Michigan.

The six governments requested a total of $513,861. That's only about a quarter of the $1.93 million that the tribe shared from the FireKeepers Casino.

"For me, it's pretty simple. It's either a result of the casino or reservation, or it's not," Athens Township's Greg Moore, secretary secretary of the FireKeepers Local Revenue Sharing Board, told The Battle Creek Enquirer.. "If it's not, it's just a money grab."

The tribe's Class III gaming compact calls for 2 percent of slot machine profits to be shared with the community. Priority goes to governments for actual costs caused by the casino or the reservation.
