Utah Navajos want to join gaming industry with Class II

Members of the Navajo Nation who live in Utah don't want to be left out of the tribe's gaming initiatives.

The tribe has seen success with Fire Rock Navajo Casino, a facility near Gallup, New Mexico. More casinos are planned in New Mexico and Arizona.

But what about Utah? “It’s really sad,” Kenneth Maryboy, a San Juan County Commissioner and Navajo Nation Council delegate, told The Salt Lake City Weekly. He said Utah Navajos are "sort of like a stepchild to both sides of the government.”

Utah Navajos want to start a Class II bingo facility but appear to be facing opposition from the state, where nearly all forms of gaming are outlawed.
