The Sioux Falls Argus Leader asked the candidates for governor of South Dakota about a proposed off-reservation casino.
Under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe would need the approval of the next governor for the casino. But only one candidate -- a Republican -- said he was open to the idea.
"I'd sure be willing to sit down and talk to them about it," rancher Ken Knuppe told the paper. "Anything that keeps dollars in the state would be good."
The paper also asked the candidates for mayor of Sioux Falls about the casino. The two who responded did not advance to the runoff.
The tribe and a group of business leaders are proposing the casino in Sioux Falls to counteract one just across the border in Iowa.
