Little Traverse gaming board accused of mismanagement

The gaming board for the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians of Michigan is under investigation for financial mismanagement, The Petoskey News-Review reports.

Chairman Ken Harrington announced the investigation in the April 2010 edition of Odawa Trails. Tribal prosecutor Matthew Lesky also confirmed the probe, although no charges have been filed so far.

The probe apparently centers on the board's decision to issue a $53,000 severance check to Denise White, the former director of human resources for the tribe. White left her job on January 25 and the board gave her a check on January 26 in what the tribe's general counsel said was an abuse of authority.
