New compact for Seminole Tribe moving towards approval

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (R) expects final approval of a Class III gaming compact for the Seminole Tribe by early next week.

The deal was announced on Tuesday. The tribal council approved it yesterday and Crist said he will sign it after state lawmakers give their approval.

The compact authorizes slot machines at all seven of the tribe's casinos and table games at four casinos. The tribe will share over $1 billion with the state for the next five years.

The deal becomes effective after it is approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
