Lawmakers in Maine are expected to debate three competing gaming proposals that could appear on the November ballot.
One proposal would allow the Passamaquoddy Tribe (Pleasant Point | Indian Township) and the Penobscot Nation to
operate slot machines on their reservations. Another would authorize as many as three state-owned casinos, with preference given to tribal bidders.
A third would authorize a tribal casino in Washington County. The Passamaquoddy Tribe has supported this proposal.
Lawmakers could place any, all or none of the proposals on the ballot to compete with a proposed casino in Oxford County.
In past elections, state voters have rejected tribal casino but they have backed non-Indian gaming facilities.
