The Gila River Indian Community is funding radio advertisements that criticize the Tohono O'odham Nation for seeking an off-reservation casino.
The ads accuse the Tohono O'odham Nation of being "greedy" and of trying to "pull a fast one," Capitol Media Services reports. It describes placing a casino near housing and a school as a "crazy" idea.
The ads were paid by the Keeping the Promise Foundation, a group consisting of the tribe and its lobbyists. The tribe's attorney said the foundation has other contributors but declined to identify them.
The Tohono O'odham Nation wants to build the $500 million West
Valley Resort on land it acquired in connection with a land claim settlement.
