County looks at possible Shinnecock Nation casino sites

With federal recognition on the horizon, the Shinnecock Nation of New York is looking at potential gaming sites and lawmakers in Suffolk County want to help.

The county legislature set up a task force to identify sites for the tribe. Lawmakers say a casino on county-owned land would ensure local governments get a stake in the process and, potentially, a share of the revenues.

So far the tribe hasn't identified a location for a casino. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is due to make final decision on the tribe's federal recognition petition by the middle of the year.
