The leader of Carter Lake, Iowa, welcomes the proposed Ponca Tribe casino.
Mayor Russ Kramer said he's tried unsuccessfully to lure businesses to the city. Indian gaming appears to be the only way to spur development, he said.
“Speaking for myself — I can’t speak for my council members — but I think it would be a great opportunity for the city,” Kramer told The Omaha World-Herald.
The tribe owns 4.5 acres in the city. The land was placed in trust in 2003 and the National Indian Gaming
Commission said it can be used for gaming.
A federal judge disagreed but the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals and told the NIGC to look at the issue one more time.
