Former Congressman James Traficant, who served time in federal prison on corruption charges, is helping two non-recognized tribes pursue a casino in Ohio.
Traficant said the Itana Indian Nation and the Munsee Delaware Indian Nation-USA want to build a hotel, convention center, casino and bank in North Jackson. He helped facilitate the transfer of more than 20 acres to the two groups.
“There is still a process to be undertaken,” Traficant said in the prepared statement, The Youngstown Vindicator reported. “But the project is under way and moving forward.”
Neither the Itana Indian Nation nor the Munsee Delaware Indian Nation-USA are federally recognized. Ohio is not currently home to any federally recognized tribes.
