The Morongo Band of Mission
Indians says 40 tribes and non-Indian card clubs have joined the effort to legalize Internet poker in California.
Last month, the Morongo Band said 21 tribes became a part of the California Online Poker Association. The names of the tribes still haven't been released to the public.
Former President George W. Bush signed the
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in 2006. The law bans
Internet gambling but includes exceptions for wagering that takes place under
state law or tribal-state compacts.
