Casino Stalker
Opinion: State politicos should back Mississippi Choctaw casino

Officials in Malheur County, Oregon, are meeting every month to discuss a potential off-reservation casino with the Burns Paiute Tribe.

The Malheur County Casino Committee hired an attorney with Indian law experience and wants to study how other communities have dealt with casinos. The committee also will ask the tribe for a copy of its economic impact study.

The tribe previously filed a land-into-trust application for a site in Ontario in October 2006. The Bureau of Indian Affairs stopped work on the application in January 2008, saying the tribe failed to submit enough information.
