Mashantucket Tribe supplies gaming facility with 'green' energy
Thursday, August 19, 2010
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut says a cogeneration power plant is part of its effort to stay "green." The $37.5 million plant went online in June. It supplies nearly 60 percent of the electricity consumed on the reservation, including heating and cooling for the Foxwoods Resort Casino. The plant features two 10,300-horsepower, jet-engine turbines that convert natural gas into electricity and steam, The New London Day reported. Each can produce 7.5 megawatts of electricity.
