Pauma Band allows woman to collect disputed $2K slots jackpot

The Pauma Band of Luiseño Indians of California allowed a woman to collect a $2,040 slot machine jackpot but said she will remain banned from the Casino Pauma.

Jill Waters and her sister-in-law were playing slot machines together when the jackpot hit. The casino initially declined to issue the payment because it wasn't clear whether Waters was operating the machine at the time.

“The Gaming Commission has determined that while Jill Waters is able to claim her winnings, her involuntary exclusion stands on grounds of ‘suspicious activity and spontaneous statements’ that confirmed her intent to avoid tax reporting requirements pursuant to Title 31," the tribe said in a statement, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Waters was awarded the money after a hearing by the tribal gaming commission.
