Non-Indian race track against New Mexico off-reservation casino

A non-Indian casino in southern New Mexico is opposed to an off-reservation casino for Jemez Pueblo.

Sunland Park Casino is about 16 miles from the proposed gaming site. The track says it will lose revenue and jobs if the tribal casinos is approved.

"Approximately half of our revenue would go away," lobbyist Scott Scanland told KTSM-TV.

The Bush administration killed the project because it said the casino site was too far from the reservation. The Obama administration, however, said the tribe's land-into-trust application wasn't given a proper review.
