Monday, July 19, 2010
The National Indian Gaming Commission announced Lawrence S. Roberts, a member of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, as its new general counsel.
Roberts has worked in the private sector and for the Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency. He has more than 15 years of Indian law experience, the NIGC said in a press release.
“Larry brings broad experience, skills and knowledge of Indian law. We are eager to begin working with him and welcome him to the team," said NIGC Chairwoman Tracie Stevens, who joined the agency last month after being confirmed by the Senate
Roberts will be the first permanent attorney for the NIGC since the end of the Clinton administration. He is also the first Indian to serve in the post since the Clinton era.
