The Seminole Tribe of Florida is reportedly interested in pursuing a casino in Massachusetts.
According to an attorney, the tribe is interested in the town of Charlton, about 20 miles from Connecticut. And so is Penn National Gaming of Pennsylvania.
"[T]hese two have come back and they don’t have an issue with me disclosing their names," attorney Paul P. Nicolai told The Worcester Telegram and Gazette.
The tribe operates seven gaming facilities in Florida and owns the Hard Rock brand. But a spokesperson wouldn't confirm or deny interest in Massachusetts.
"All I can tell you, generally, is the Seminole Tribe considers, and its gaming division, regularly considers locations for gaming and other markets, but we don’t ever discuss those publicly," spokesperson Gary E. Bitner told the paper.
Lawmakers are considering a bill to authorize up to three casinos in the state. The casinos are expected to be located in different regions.
The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut plans to bid for a casino in Palmer, in western Massachusetts.
