The board of supervisors in Santa Barbara County, California, voted 3-2 to oppose a liquor license at the casino owned by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians.

The board will send a letter of protest to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Supervisors raised concerns about the casino's proximity to schools and about law enforcement.

The tribe wants to serve liquor in the showroom at the Chumash Casino Hotel and Resort, in two restaurants and the hotel. Alcohol will remain off limits on the gaming floor.

The tribe holds three separate liquor licenses at the casino.
