The Tribal Alliance of Sovereign Indian Nations is opposing a bill to legalize Internet poker in California.
The tribes say the bill introduced by Sen. Roderick Wright (D) is too broad. Even the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, which supports Internet poker, opposes it.
"We've always supported the concept of intrastate poker in California because of consumer protections, revenue to the state and the fact it would bring the game out of the shadows,” tribal spokesperson Patrick Dorinson told The Palm Springs Desert Sun. “But we cannot support the bill in its present form.”
The California Senate Governmental Organization Committee, chaired by Wright, will hold a hearing on the bill on June 29.
