Union still eyeing deal at Saginaw Chippewa casino

The United Auto Workers is hoping to organize at the casino owned by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan even though prior efforts failed.

The Teamsters lost a vote among housekeepers at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort. And another union withdrew plans for an election for security workers at the last minute.

But some employees see some hope. The UAW recently finalized a deal with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut.

"It took them 2 to 1 to get the union in there," Soaring Eagle employee Larry Moldenhauer told The Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun of the Pequot vote. "And it was a 3 to 1 vote that ratified the contract. That's pretty awesome."

Supporters started UAW Soaring Eagle Workers on Facebook to promote their cause.
