The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township is opposing a referendum that would authorize a casino resort.
The tribe says the Black Bear
Entertainment casino is too restrictive and would lead to a future monopoly, the Associated Press reported.
Voters will consider the issue in November.
The tribe tried to get an alternative proposal for an Indian casino on the ballot but state lawmakers rejected it.
