The Catawba Nation of South Carolina has been looking at sites for a high-stakes bingo hall.
The tribe considered four locations but ran into local opposition, The State reported. A fifth site could finally be the right place for the tribe to take over an existing bingo hall.
The tribe was recognized by an act of Congress in 1993. The law excludes the tribe from the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act but it allows the tribe to operate two bingo halls pursuant to state law.
One of the bingo halls can be located anywhere in the state but the tribe must gain state and local approval for it, according to The State.
