A bill to approve an off-reservation casino for the Little River Band of Ottawa
Indians is expected to move quickly through the Michigan Legislature.
The bill endorses amendments to the tribe's Class III compact to authorize a casino at a former racetrack in Fruitport Township. The site is about 80 miles from the tribe's headquarters but within the tribe's nine-county service area.
The tribe still has to gain approval to have the site placed in trust. The tribe owns 233 acres in Fruitport Township and is expected to file a land-into-trust application for 60 acres.
