The Manchester-Point Arena Band of Pomo Indians is opposing plans by another Pomo tribe for a casino in the Bay Area of California.
The Manchester-Point Arena Band says the Guidiville Band of Pomo Indians can't demonstrate a historical connection to the proposed gaming site. "We Pomo people know very well that Contra Costa County is not within our aboriginal territory," Manchester Point Arena Chairman Nelson Pinola said in a press release.
The Guidiville Band plans a large gaming facility, along with two hotels, a convention center, a retail complex and other development at Point Molate in Richmond. The Bureau of Indian Affairs has been working on an environmental impact
statement / environmental impact report for the project.
The Manchester-Point Arena Band started work on a casino last fall.
