The 15th annual Western Indian
Gaming Conference began on Tuesday with a new format.
There's no trade show this year. Instead, tribes, gaming vendors and other companies are sponsoring seminars on a wide range of topics.
Regulation was the focus of yesterday's session. Panels focused on the Minimum Internal Control Standards and their application in California, tribal regulation and Internet poker.
The schedule continues today with a welcome address from Danny Tucker, the new chairman of the California Nations Indian Gaming
Association. There's also a series of panels on Class II gaming, Class III gaming, federal and state legislation, the Special Distribution Fund that was established by the 1999 Class III gaming compact, casino employees and insurance and financial planning.
The conference takes place at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs.
