Cherokee Nation purchases shuttered horse track

The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma purchased a race track that had been closed by the Choctaw Nation.

The Cherokees originally wanted to buy the Blue Ribbon Downs. The Choctaws ended up getting the track and bragged at having outsmarted the Cherokees.

But the track closed at the end of last month after the Choctaws said they couldn't keep it going.

"We had an opportunity to purchase property that is within our tribal jurisdiction so we always closely consider that, and see it as a wise business decision to take advantage of that any time we can," David Stewart, CEO of Cherokee Nation Entertainment, told The Tulsa World.
