NIGC urged to take action against Seminole Tribe

Florida House Speaker Larry Cretul is asking the National Indian Gaming Commission to take action against the Seminole Tribe.

A letter to NIGC Acting Chair George Skibine says the tribe is engaging in Class III gaming without a valid tribal-state compact. "The Tribe’s ability to profit from these illegal games creates a disincentive to enter into a compact, and places the State at a significant disadvantage in negotiating games to which it never gave its consent," Cretul wrote.

Cretul urged Skibine to fine the tribe and order the closure of slot machines and table games. "It is our hope that the NIGC exercises this authority to bring the Tribe into compliance with federal law," he wrote.

According to the letter, Skibine met with top lawmakers yesterday, during the Florida Gaming Summit.
