An addiction support group in Michigan is pressuring the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians for a $25,000 donation.
The Alano Club of Battle Creek says the tribe hasn't responded to several calls to discuss gambling addictions. Rep. Mark Schauer also called the tribe on the group's behalf but denied soliciting funds.
“They’re more than willing to contribute to the problem but not willing to contribute to the solution,” Alano President Roy Tooke told The Battle Creek Enquirer. “The community should know if they’re not willing to help those falling because of their presence.”
Nottawaseppi Chairwoman Laura Spurr said the tribe won't make a specific donation to the group. But the tribe will be sharing 2 percent of net gaming revenues from the FireKeepers Casino with local communities.
