Big Sandy Band wins 1,650 slot machines

The Big Sandy Rancheria Band of Western Mono Indians received the largest number of slot machine licenses in the California Gambling Control Commission draw on Monday.

The tribe was awarded 1,650 licenses. With 350 slots already in play at the Mono Wind Casino, the tribe has reached the maximum of 2,000 machines under the 1999 tribal-state gaming compact.

The tribe has a year to put the new machines into play. Plans for a bigger casino await approval from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

"There is no timeline until they have the completion of their [environmental impact statement]," a spokesperson told The Sacramento Bee.
