Empire Resorts Inc. appears back on track to develop an off-reservation casino in the Catskills region of New York.
Empire and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe had called it quits after the Bush administration rejected the project in January 2008. But there appears to be new hope with President Barack Obama in the White House.
Empire and the tribe plan to convert an old racetrack into a casino. The site is more than 350 miles from the reservation, an issue being reviewed by the Obama administration.
Through approval is not guaranteed, Empire is getting its finances in order. The firm recently announced a $65 million infusion from an investor.
