Referendum sought on Graton Rancheria casino

A city council member in Petaluma, California, wants voters to decide on the casino proposed by the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, also known as the Coast Miwok Tribe.

Councilor Mike Healy is a critic of the casino. He says a referendum in Sonoma County will show the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) what people think of the project.

Healy is part of a lawsuit that challenges the tribe's land-into-trust acquisition. A judge dismissed the case but a group called Stop the 101 Casino Coalition is appealing.
