Narragansett leader files complaint over racetrack

A leader of the Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island filed a complaint with the state attorney general, questioning whether a non-Indian racetrack is engaging in "deceptive trade practices" and "false advertising."

Council member Randy Noka said the Twin River facility is marketing itself as a "gambling casino." The state constitution does not currently allow casino gambling.

“Frankly, I am surprised and dismayed that neither Governor Carcieri, nor you have acted to order Twin River to cease holding itself out as a casino in Rhode Island,” Noka wrote in the complaint. “After all, the governor was vehemently anti-casino when we were seeking one and often referred to casinos as creating ‘economic wastelands.’"

Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch said he will investigate.
