Seneca Nation shift plan for Catskills casino
Thursday, August 13, 2009
The
Seneca Nation
has changed its plans for an off-reservation casino in the Catskills region of New York.
The tribe planned to ask Congress to approve the facility. But now the tribe will go through the
Interior Department
, the normal route for off-reservation casinos.
Larry EchoHawk
, the new head of the
Bureau of Indian Affairs
, plans to tour Catskills casino sites later this month or in September. He has not stated his policy on off-reservation gaming.
