Groups oppose Warm Springs off-reservation

A coalition of 18 environmental and conservation groups is asking the Obama administration to reject an off-reservation casino for the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon.

A letter to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says the casino would harm the Columbia Gorge. The leader of the coalition is former Interior secretary Cecil Andrus, who served during the Carter administration.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is preparing a final environmental impact statement for the casino. The Obama administration hasn't stated its position on off-reservation gaming.
