Wednesday, August 5, 2009
A coalition of 18 environmental and conservation groups is asking the Obama administration to reject an off-reservation casino for the
Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon
.
A
letter
to
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar
says the casino would harm the Columbia Gorge. The leader of the coalition is former Interior secretary
Cecil Andrus
, who served during the Carter administration.
The
Bureau of Indian Affairs
is preparing a final
environmental impact statement
for the casino. The Obama administration hasn't stated its position on off-reservation gaming.
