A large crowd is expected at the first public hearing on the land-into-trust application for the Soboba Band of Luiseño
Indians of California.
The tribe wants 535 acres placed in trust. If the Bureau of Indian Affairs approves, the tribe will move the Soboba Casino to the new site, a plan that has neighbors worried.
"The reality is, we will be engulfed by a reservation," Tish Arciniega of Save Our Communities told The Riverside Press-Enterprise.
Residents of three neighborhoods will have to go through tribal land if the application is approved.
They plan to express their concerns about increased casino traffic at the public hearing on Wednesday.
