Eastern Cherokees expanding hotel at casino

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians broke ground on an expansion project at Harrah's Cherokee in North Carolina.

The tribe will be adding another hotel tower to the facility, making it the largest hotel in the state. “The expansion is an investment in our future,” said Norma Moss of the tribe's gaming enterprise board, The Asheville Citizen-Times reported.

The 532-room hotel tower is part of a $633 million expansion that will double the size of the gaming floor and add a 3,000-seat events center, a 16,000-sq.-ft. spa, restaurant and retail space, new parking facilities to the casino. The project is expected to be completed in 2012.
