Grand Ronde Tribes finalize casino service deal

The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde reached an agreement to secure fire and emergency services at the Spirit Mountain Casino.

The tribe will build a new fire station for the West Valley Fire District, pay for new firefighting positions and buy new equipment. "This is going to help everybody — the tribe, the fire department, the community," Lt. Dave Morey told the Associated Press.

The fire district told the tribe that it wouldn't be able to respond adequately to a fire at the casino without additional staffers and new equipment.
