Tohono O'odham Nation promotes plans for casino

The Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona is meeting with business and local leaders in hopes of gaining support for its off-reservation casino.

The tribe says the $600 West Valley Resort will create 6,000 construction jobs and 3,000 permanent jobs. "We are expecting more than $300 million in annual impacts, and that is probably a conservative estimate," Scott Sirois, the tribe's gaming CEO, told The Daily News-Sun.

The tribe wants to open the casino on 134 acres in Glendale. The land was purchased with funds that were authorized by an act of Congress but city officials are raising objections about the site's eligibility for gaming.
