The Obama administration is delaying action on a proposed gaming acquisition for the Federated Indians of
Graton Rancheria of California.
The tribe was recognized in 2000 by an act of Congress. The law mandated the acquisition of trust land for the tribe but casino opponents filed a lawsuit.
A federal judge dismissed the lawsuit but the Stop the Casino 101 Coalition is taking the case to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Opening briefs are due October 9, an attorney said.
It's not clear whether the Obama administration will delay action until the appeal is resolved. The Interior Department said in a letter it will wait until at least July 27 before making further decisions.
